Why Summer Is A Good Time To Move To A Retirement Community

At John Knox Village East & Meyer Care Center, we have people move in at all different times of the year, but many times if people were given their choice, they prefer to make the move in the summer and many times they do.  Here are some reasons why people choose to transition to senior living in the summer months.

Weather

One reason people choose to make their move to John Knox Village East & Meyer Care Center in the summer is simply weather.  No one wants to be outside carrying boxes and furniture when the snow is flying and the weather is freezing.  It’s simply safer and easier to make this move when the sun is shining and its 85 or 90 degrees outside.  You also don’t have to worry about tracking snow, water, dirt and mud in and out of your old house or your new home when you don’t have to deal with the elements.

Help

Another reason people choose to make their new home at John Knox Village East & Meyer Care Center during the summer is that it may be easier to find help.  Grandkids or younger neighbors may be out of school for the summer and looking to pick up some extra money.  Neighborhood teenagers or relatives may be a good pool of moving talent.  They have young bodies and strong backs and may be willing and able to help you out.  They’re also likely less expensive than moving companies.

Relative’s Schedules

Sometimes, adult children see the need to make the move for their parents during the summer because their schedules fill up with ballgames, trips to the lake and vacations.  As their away from home more often, they may not be able to provide the assistance they have at other times of the year – filling pill boxes, grocery shopping, running errands or helping with household chores.  Since they’re out of town during this time, sometimes families choose to make the move to John Knox Village East & Meyer Care Center during the summer.

There are many different factors that go into when is the right time to physically make the move to a senior living community – no matter what level of care is appropriate for you or your loved one.  But one truism is that it takes planning, scheduling and assistance.  We are here to help you any way we can – whether you make the move in the summer or some other time of year.
