Don’t Spend Another Winter Cooped Up In Your House

While we’re still in the throes of summer, fall and winter will be right around the corner.  Now is the time to act if you’re considering making the move to a senior living community before winter.  There are many reasons people move to John Knox Village East & Meyer Care Center in advance of the onset of winter.

Isolation

Isolation tends to increase during the winter months.  It’s harder for you to get out and socialize with your family and friends.  It’s also harder for them to get out and come by and visit with you or accompany you on outings.  The weather plays a big role in this – people just don’t get out as much when the weather is colder and the days are shorter.  People don’t feel as much like getting out and they may not want to risk falling.  At John Knox Village East & Meyer Care Center you never have to worry about being isolated.  A visit with friends is as simple as a stroll down the hall to the coffee machine or a trip to the Fireside Dining Room to share a meal with your neighbor.

Slips, Trips and Falls

There is an increased incidence of falls and fall related injuries during the winter months.  The weather can be more precarious with snow and ice.  Vision can be reduced with earlier darkness and gloomy, overcast days.  All these can lend to slipping, tripping and falling.  Injuries can be more prevalent during the winter too.  Our bodies tend to be less flexible in colder weather.  At John Knox Village East & Meyer Care Center, you don’t have to risk an unnecessary trip outside during bad weather.  You can let us take you to your appointments and get on the shuttle under our protective canopy.  You can take advantage of our onsite therapy and never even have to leave campus.  You can eat out in our dining room and simply stroll down the hall to enjoy a good meal with your friends.

Logistics

We’ve covered it before, but it’s just easier to move your bed, TV and favorite easy chair when the weather is nicer.  Very few want to undertake the physical aspects of moving when there is snow and ice on the ground or the temperatures are cold.

At John Knox Village East & Meyer Care Center you can maintain your activity and interaction, use our transportation services for outings and not worry about getting out to get groceries in the winter.  You don’t have to use the services we have, but it’s nice to know they’re here if winter is a hindrance to you being able to maintain your circle of friends and get out and about.  Should you have any questions, call us at 660 584 7111.  We’d be happy to chat with you.
